"Meet America's Master Woodworkers"
Executive Producer/ Host
Charles Brock is a storyteller, TV producer, a fine furniture maker, publisher, teacher and multi-instrument musician. In all, he enjoys learning, observing and doing! What gets Charles started in his relentless pursuits are these questions, "What if!" and "If so, Now What?"
Charles learned to tell stories to children ( Elementary School Teacher 1974-2009). He feels that good storytelling (usually with humor) is the best way to connect with anyone, children and adults. He has used this special skill to connect all of his work to people.
Since 1979, Charles has been building fine furniture. It was in his DNA. His Grandpa Jarrell built institutional casework and spiral staircases. His Uncle Farrell Brock demonstrated the ability to build from a vision. This made a lasting impression on Charles which drives him today. His furniture making includes reproduction and contemporary tables, chairs, beds and chests. He has delivered over 200 furniture commissions for clients who have become friends.
Since 2004, he has been teaching woodworking to adults. His current emphasis is in sculptural seating. Charles "Build a Sculptured Rocker" Instructional Bundle is the largest selling woodworking video project of all time. The video, patterns and book bundle has assisted woodworkers from all over the world to build a "Bucket List" sculptured rocking chair. This and other instructional project bundles led Charles to open a woodworking school to teach aspiring woodworkers. He taught a six day, hands-on sculptured rocker class over 80 times in his studio (2008-2024).
Charles has appeared on the Martha Stewart Show and taught at Popular Woodworking’s Woodworking in America Conference. In March of 2023, he had a feature chairmaking article published in Popular Woodworking magazine.
From 2010 to 2022 Charles produced and hosted an online show titled, "The Highland Woodworker." It was licensed for distribution to Highland Woodworking in Atlanta, Georgia. It was also distributed by Popular Woodworking and Fine Woodworking Magazine to their email subscribers. Sixty-eight episodes of the show were produced. In each episode, Charles took the viewer on a road trip to meet a master woodworker to provide them an opportunity to tell their inspiring story . Charles is now producing and hosting a new show on PBS and CREATE TV stations across the USA with the same format. So, you can still take a road trip with Charles to hear some great stories from the masters.
In 2013, the Brock family moved from Columbus, Georgia to Middle Tennessee. They reside in Franklin, Tennessee with kids and grandkids close-by. When not working wood or developing woodworking content, Charles enjoys spending time with his family and his relentless pursuit of playing music and telling stories.
